Miu Miu which belongs to the Prada fashion house is now an important part of the company, was founded for the purpose of creating a free projection surface for creative ideas. It all started in 1913 when Mario Prada founded his first label. At first the name Prada stood for the production and sale of luxury leather goods.
The career of Miuccia Prada was anything but ordinary. Similar to Yves Saint Laurent, she was a convinced communist and feminist and had the spirit of the times under control and often wore his clothes. She studied political science and completed her studies with a PhD. She also completed a five-year acting and pantomime training.
At the age of 28 she took over the management of the family business from her mother Luisa. Now she was also supposed to sense the spirit of the times and fashionably stage her manifestos: From black military nylon she created an elegant handbag that quickly became a cult object and sold like hot cakes. Her motto was, everything was different than all the others. For the release of the new collection she started with shoes.
Through the acquisition of Miuccia Prada, Prada developed into a leading global fashion group. It redefined concepts such as luxury, sophistication and desire. Her husband Patrizio Bertelli contributed to this success. In 1991 Prada expanded to China, Japan and the USA. Two years later, the company launched its first men’s collection. In 1993 Miuccia Prada created Miu Miu. Miu Miu is a subsidiary of Prada and was intended to appeal to the younger generation. Miu Miu is the nickname of Miuccia Prada.
In 1995 Miuccia Prada again caused a stir and broke all the rules. With the Prada Ugly collection she once again set herself apart from the mainstream of the fashion world. The collection was aimed at young, fashionable women. The bright colors, thick lenses, old-fashioned fabrics and retro-style cuts set her apart from the competition. In the following years Miuccia Prada created her own empire. She twisted the eyes of the fashion world.
